The oldest documents make reference to it date back to the first half of the XVI century.
This church has one of the most interesting sets of altarpieces of the Algarve northeast. The chancel, with vaulted cot and without any decoration, is divided from the body of the church by a perfect arc and unadorned where you can enjoy a gilded altarpiece of baroque style of transition to the phase "Johannine" (end of the XVII and early XVIII century century), richly worked.
In 1976 this church found itself almost in ruins and suffered major repair.
