There is a place which has been converted to a cultural venue and which stages many different cultural events in the very heart of the Enlightenment city of Vila Real de Santo António. It is called the "António Aleixo Cultural Centre", in tribute to the poet António Aleixo, who was born here. The centre's open doors give you a frisson of excitement in advance of the première of a play as well as inviting you to step inside and visit a variety of exhibitions or attend one of the many cultural events organised here for the local community. Inside, you will find a handicraft shop and a tourist information desk, among other facilities. And there is an internet space from which you can connect to worldwide web. At Christmas time, the centre displays a giant nativity scene comprising thousands of pieces and which is created by staff and friends of Vila Real de Santo António municipal council.
