The scrubland area of the VRSA Mata Nacional das Dunas Litorais is a vast area of pine groves that provides shelter for many species of fauna (e.g. chameleons, tits, hoopoes and rock buntings) and flora (e.g. sea holly, french lavender and broom). It is a delightful place to enjoy “+ Health” walks. There are several routes to choose from (scrubland and beach) with various difficulty levels and there are resting stops and picnic areas along the way.
In fact, flora and fauna, combined with the fresh air from the local environment, are an attractive invitation for walking or for sports. Every year, athletes use the forest to perform their internships for Olympic and international competitions. Next to Monte Gordo there is a picnic area where you can relax under the shade of pine trees.
For example, you can make the forest route, during which you can enjoy the fresh air and natural values of the forest.
You can also take the beach route, going through a part of the forest and also passing through the extensive sands of the beaches of Monte Gordo and Santo António (also known as “Praia dos Três Pauzinhos”).
