The Fair of San Marcos is one of the largest in the Algarve mountains and has about three centuries of existence and records since 1834 , and its genesis probably related to a pilgrimage ( Parish Memories of 1758) .

It became a free fair and an important trading center and meeting place for generations to the present day .

The date of April 25 is associated since 1974 , the national holiday that celebrates Freedom Day and the beginning of democracy in Portugal .
